It provides the foundations that any student from such a master must have. The common core (18 ECTS) comprises two thematic teaching units (Unit\u00e9s d&rsquo;Enseignement, UE) of 6 ECTS:  <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/offre-de-formations.univ-lyon1.fr\/ue-9311-1243%2Fphysique-des-milieux-condenses.html\" target=\"_blank\">physique des milieux condens\u00e9s<\/a> \/ <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/offre-de-formations.univ-lyon1.fr\/ue-7963-1243%2Fphysics-of-condensed-systems.html\" target=\"_blank\">physics of condensed systems<\/a>, <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/offre-de-formations.univ-lyon1.fr\/ue-17103-1243%2Felectromagnetisme-et-matiere.html\" target=\"_blank\">\u00e9l\u00e9ctromagn\u00e9tisme et mati\u00e8re<\/a> \/ <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/offre-de-formations.univ-lyon1.fr\/ue-17106-1243%2Felectromagnetism-and-matter.html\" target=\"_blank\">electromagnetism and matter<\/a>. These UEs are given in French and in English. In addition, there is a UE for preparation for professional integration (3 ECTS, consisting of a module for knowledge of the professional environment (<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/offre-de-formations.univ-lyon1.fr\/ue-19089-1243%2Fconnaissance-de-l%27environnement-professionnel.html\" target=\"_blank\">connaissance de l&rsquo;environnement professionnel<\/a>) of 1 ECTS and of a module for finding an internship, a job (<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/offre-de-formations.univ-lyon1.fr\/ue-19195-1243%2Ftrip---rechercher-un-stage-un-emploi.html\" target=\"_blank\">TrIP &#8211; rechercher un stage, un emploi<\/a> ) of 2 ECTS) and a UE of English for professional communication level 1 (<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/offre-de-formations.univ-lyon1.fr\/ue-17026-1243%2Fanglais-pour-la-communication-professionnelle-niveau-1.html\" target=\"_blank\">anglais pour la communication professionnelle niveau 1<\/a>, 3 ECTS). For the part specific to the astrophysics curriculum (12 ECTS), it is compulsory to choose the Fundamental Physics path, which comprises two more thematic UEs of 6 ECTS: <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/offre-de-formations.univ-lyon1.fr\/ue-17102-1243%2Fmecanique-quantique-et-applications.html\" target=\"_blank\">m\u00e9canique quantique et applications<\/a> \/ <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/offre-de-formations.univ-lyon1.fr\/ue-17105-1243%2Fquantum-mechanics-and-applications.html\" target=\"_blank\">quantum mechanics and applications<\/a>, and <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/offre-de-formations.univ-lyon1.fr\/ue-9289-1243%2Fphysiques-des-milieux-continus.html\" target=\"_blank\">physique des milieux continus<\/a> \/ <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/offre-de-formations.univ-lyon1.fr\/ue-7962-1243%2Fphysics-of-continuous-media.html\" target=\"_blank\">physics of continuous media<\/a>, also given in French and in English.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"185\" src=\"https:\/\/master-astrophysique.univ-lyon1.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/S1_Lyon_2022-2026-1-1024x185.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-688\" srcset=\"https:\/\/master-astrophysique.univ-lyon1.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/S1_Lyon_2022-2026-1-1024x185.png 1024w, https:\/\/master-astrophysique.univ-lyon1.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/S1_Lyon_2022-2026-1-300x54.png 300w, https:\/\/master-astrophysique.univ-lyon1.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/S1_Lyon_2022-2026-1-768x138.png 768w, https:\/\/master-astrophysique.univ-lyon1.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/S1_Lyon_2022-2026-1-1536x277.png 1536w, https:\/\/master-astrophysique.univ-lyon1.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/S1_Lyon_2022-2026-1.png 1952w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 706px) 89vw, (max-width: 767px) 82vw, 740px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Semester 2<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The second semester is also composed of a common core and of a part specific to the chosen curriculum. The common core (15 ECTS) includes an experimental physics UE of 6 ECTS (<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/offre-de-formations.univ-lyon1.fr\/ue-9295-1243%2Fphysique-experimentale.html\" target=\"_blank\">physique exp\u00e9rimentale<\/a>) for lab work, a numerical modeling UE of 3 ECTS (<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/offre-de-formations.univ-lyon1.fr\/ue-17132-1243%2Fmodelisation-numerique.html\" target=\"_blank\">mod\u00e9lisation num\u00e9rique<\/a>) and a 6-week internship (<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/offre-de-formations.univ-lyon1.fr\/ue-17133-1243%2Fstage-en-milieu-professionnel.html\" target=\"_blank\">stage<\/a>) in a research laboratory for 6 ECTS. The part specific to the astrophysics curriculum (15 ECTS) offers five UEs of 3 ECTS adapted to this specialization: advanced quantum mechanics (<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/offre-de-formations.univ-lyon1.fr\/ue-17134-1243%2Fmecanique-quantique-avancee.html\" target=\"_blank\">m\u00e9canique quantique avanc\u00e9e<\/a>), statistical physics of interacting systems and phase transitions (<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/offre-de-formations.univ-lyon1.fr\/ue-17136-1243%2Fphysique-statistique-des-systemes-en-interaction.html\" target=\"_blank\">physique statistique des syst\u00e8mes en interaction&nbsp;et&nbsp;transitions&nbsp;de&nbsp;phase<\/a>), atomic and molecular physics (<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/offre-de-formations.univ-lyon1.fr\/ue-17135-1243%2Fphysique-atomique-et-moleculaire.html\" target=\"_blank\">physique atomique et mol\u00e9culaire<\/a>), astrophysics: evolution of the Universe and cycle of the elements (<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/offre-de-formations.univ-lyon1.fr\/ue-9304-1243%2Fastrophysique.html\" target=\"_blank\">astrophysique&nbsp;:&nbsp;\u00e9volution&nbsp;de&nbsp;l&rsquo;Univers&nbsp;et&nbsp;cycle&nbsp;des&nbsp;\u00e9l\u00e9ments<\/a>), and general relativity (<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/offre-de-formations.univ-lyon1.fr\/ue-9306-1243%2Frelativite-generale.html\" target=\"_blank\">relativit\u00e9 g\u00e9n\u00e9rale<\/a>).
